ABOUT ME
Hi! My name is Carla and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) who holds a BA in Sociology from The Ohio State University and a MEd in Counseling from Cleveland State University. I am also a Registered Yoga Teacher.
Giving back to the community has always been important to me. I have served in a range of volunteer roles including teaching yoga in local prisons, facilitating parent education groups, acting as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children, providing mental health services in a free clinic, and mentoring a teen parent.
I believe that in order to be the best counselor I can be, it is important for me to keep myself healthy. Therefore, I make time to enjoy the things I love like reading, doing yoga, listening to podcasts, spending time outdoors, and devoting time to my friends and family.
EXPERTISE
I have practiced in a variety of settings including schools, community mental health agencies, the judicial system, and a residential treatment center.
My expertise includes individual, group, and family therapy as well as clinical case management, crisis intervention, and assessment to children and adults confronting depression, anxiety, relationship issues, life transitions, and substance misuse.
In my 20 years of practice, I have enhanced my skills and increased my knowledge through my involvement in professional organizations and participation in continuing education. I have completed training through the Trauma Resource Institute which focuses on helping people build skills to return the body, mind, and spirit back to balance after trauma.
COUNSELING APPROACHES
The quote from Jon Kabat-Zin, “You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf” captures much of what I help people do; learn to find stability in turbulence.
Humanistic, existential, and experiential approaches guide my practice. In counseling sessions with adolescents through adults of all ages, I strive to offer a setting that provides warmth, honesty, and support while partnering with clients to help build self-awareness, make meaning of their circumstances, explore their conflicts, and reach a better state of existence.
I believe in the integration of mind, body, and spirit as an approach to wellness and love helping people understand how their physical bodies are impacted by their emotional experiences. Empowering people with skills to regulate their nervous systems in order achieve stability is an important part of the work I do. I am also a proponent of practices such as yoga and meditation to help bring about overall feelings of well-being.

Nearly everyone claims like they belong to a dysfunctional family. We also blame our families for our present troubles to the degree that we are not responsible for our actions. Our past interactions with dysfunctional families sometimes can affect our behavior.
