ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Zena Fletcher (she/her), and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Associate (NC). I was born in N. Miami Beach, Florida and have now lived in the RDU area for the last 40 years. I obtained a Bachelor of Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (with a major in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in child and adolescent development and a minor in Social Work). I then received a Master of Science from East Carolina University’s Marriage and Family Therapy program. I am married and have two daughters, two bonus sons and two sweet, yet energetic fur babies.

EXPERTISE

I have clinical experience working with children, teens, adults, couples, and families. My experiences include Family Preservation, in-home therapy, youth crisis & runaway shelter, and adolescent behavior modification group home. For the last 23 years, I have been working with parents and assisting them as they navigate separation or divorce and creating child centered co-parenting plans. I have experience with and a passion for working with clients who are on a journey of growth and healing from past or present trauma, life transitions, marital problems, stress management, depression, anxiety, generational trauma, high conflict divorce, blending/blended families, and Intimate Partner Violence.

COUNSELING APPROACHES

As a therapist, I believe it is of great value to focus on the strengths, attributes, and tools that each client possesses, and to work collaboratively to implement new ways to interact as we all learn and grow. In my clinical work, it is important for clients to feel safe, heard, respected, and empowered within the therapeutic relationship. I believe that individuals and relationships are much more than what is on the surface and more about how we impact one another and the world around us, and how it impacts us. I am most closely aligned with family systems therapy models, client-centered, and research based theoretical approaches. I use modalities from solution focused, structural family therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Narrative, Psycho-Educational, Experiential and Bowenian or Intergenerational therapies. I also utilize a Health At Every Size/Body Positivity/Anti-diet culture perspective and place high value on respect for diversity and strive to promote an atmosphere of inclusivity.
